Tues. Pa. girls' roundup: Shipley stymies Friends' Central

options
 

Talia Rosoff scored off a rebound on Tuesday afternoon to lift Shipley over host Friends' Central, 1-0, in a Friends Schools League field hockey game.

Midway through the second half, Rosoff broke the scoreless tie by firing in a shot that bounced off the goalie's pads. She was assisted by fellow freshman Whitney Harris.

Hayley Silva turned away seven shots to post the shutout for the Gators.

Inter-Ac. Moira Putsch scored three times and Maddie Snider added two goals as Notre Dame breezed past host Springside Chestnut Hill, 9-0. Putsch, a junior, has 30 goals in 13 games. She also had one assist.

Central. Jess McCarthy converted a penalty stroke in the second half to seal Haverford High's 3-1 win over visiting Harriton. Natalie Bova and Morgan Druce added goals in the first half.

Kathryn Corey scored twice and Alex Bonser recorded a hat trick to help Strath Haven move past Penncrest, 9-3.

Public. Emily Davi jammed in the rebound of her own shot to give Franklin Towne Charter a 1-0 overtime win over visiting Girls High.

Soccer

Kelly Hicks ripped a shot from 20 yards to lift West Chester Henderson over Bishop Shanahan, 2-1, in a Ches-Mont League match.

Her goal came a minute after Shanahan's Sidonie Warnecker had tied the game, 1-1. Three minutes earlier, Rebecca Sherry's goal had given Henderson an early lead.

Also in the Ches-Mont, senior Dana Sarcinelo's two goals led to an easy 4-0 win for Downingtown West at Kennett. Annie Messner and Shae Yanez combined for the five-save shutout.

Friends. Freshman Jesse Rubin scored a pair of goals to help Friends' Central edge host George School, 3-2. She scored in the 28th minute and again in the 68th.

Central. Junior Marya Ghazzi scored on a penalty kick and Bari Margolis made two saves as Radnor blanked Springfield (Delco), 3-0.

Grace Edgarton and Marley Jennings scored two goals each en route to an easy 5-0 win for Conestoga at Ridley. Alexandra Maneri posted the shutout with two saves.

Inter-Ac. Freshman Meghan McCool scored four goals and Julia Schumacher contributed one to help Springside Chestnut Hill ease past visiting Notre Dame, 5-2.

Catholic. Ursula Coyle scored twice, and Little Flower blanked Cardinal O'Hara, 3-0.

Cross-Country

Catie Skinner captured first place and was one of six Penn Charter runners to place in the top 10 as the Quakers downed Notre Dame, 23-34, in an Inter-Ac League meet. Skinner finished the 3.1 miles in 19 minutes, 35 seconds.

Golf

Council Rock North's Erica Herr wrapped up the District 1 individual title by shooting a 75 at Turtle Creek Golf Course.

Including her Day 1 total, Herr compiled a district-best 143. Alex Liu of Lower Merion finished with a 150, and Mount St. Joseph's Isabella Dilisio came in third with a 152.

Radnor won the Class AAA team title behind Jamie Susanin's 166, and Cara Basso shot a 164 to help Villa Maria grab the AA title.
