Michael Vick declined to answer a question about whether he owned a dog after he posted a photograph on Twitter of him and his daughter at home last Thursday night that included a box of Milk-Bone dog biscuits.
"I'm here to strictly talk about football," Vick said Wednesday at the NovaCare Complex. "What goes on in my personal life is not to be talked about. What's most important right now is the Philadelphia Eagles and getting the win Sunday."
The 3-2 Eagles host the 1-3 Detroit Lions at Lincoln Financial Field.
In the photo, captured by the sports blog Crossing Broad, Vick is looking at his Eagles playbook on his iPad while his daughter is working at the same table. To the right is the box, apparently opened. The post was later deleted and a similar photo was posted, this time without the box in the picture.
Vick is permitted to own a dog and has spoken openly in the past about wanting to obtain one for his family, especially his two daughters. Recently, he was asked by CNN's Piers Morgan if he ever wanted to own a dog again.
"Maybe so," Vick said in July. "Being honest. Being candid. . . . I still deal with my kids each and every day, and for the last three years, not being able to have a dog because of my acts . . . I just don't think that's fair.
"It may be something that's therapeutic in that for them and I can't take that dream away from them. That's selfish on my behalf."
Asked what kind of dog he would prefer to own, Vick told Morgan that he would allow his children to choose, but that "it certainly won't be a pit bull."
The Eagles quarterback was unable to own a dog during a probationary period after his release from prison in May 2009. Vick served 19 months in a federal prison for owning and operating a dogfighting ring. He remained under house arrest for two more months and ended his probation in July.
Where's Curry?
The Eagles chose defensive end Vinny Curry in the second round of the draft in April, but he has yet to dress for a game this season.
The reason, the Eagles insist, is because of the depth in front of the rookie. Through five games, the vaunted defensive line has produced six of the team's seven sacks. Is it time to give Curry a chance?
"That's not the problem," coach Andy Reid said. "Not that he's not doing well."
Reid said that opposing teams have altered their offensive approach, with quicker throws and more blockers, to combat a defensive line that recorded a league-high 46 sacks last season. The Eagles, as a result, have had more trouble getting to quarterbacks and have not notched a sack in the last two games.
If Curry was active, he likely would replace Phillip Hunt, who played the least among five defensive ends Sunday. Hunt has no sacks.
"I'm coming along," Curry said. "I just have to be patient and wait my turn. It happens to the best of us. A couple of seasons ago, [Jason] Babin was inactive when he was with the Eagles. Now look at him."
Trent Cole and Babin defended the line. Both said Wednesday that the unit is improved this season; it's just not showing up in the statistics. Defensive end Brandon Graham suggested that improvement from the back seven in coverage and more blitzing could help.
Extra points
Akeem Jordan returned to practice and was back starting at weakside linebacker. Jordan missed the last two games with a hamstring injury. Jamar Chaney started in Jordan's absence, but he struggled Sunday against the Steelers. . . . Reid said that Demetress Bell would remain his starting left tackle. King Dunlap opened the season as the starter, but he injured his hamstring in Week 2, and has apparently lost his spot for the time being.
