Buffy Alum Danny Strong to Write The Hunger Games: Mockingjay

Having just won two Emmys last week for writing and co-executive producing the HBO TV-movie Game Change, Danny Strong has now gotten a very high profile gig – writing the final two films in The Hunger Games series. Variety reports that Strong will write The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 and Part 2, which will split the final book in the trilogy the films are based on into two feature films.

The first sequel, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, is now filming for a November 22nd, 2014 release, with Mockingjay Part 1 set for November 21st, 2014 and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 set for November 20th 2015.

Before he became a screenwriter, Strong began his career in Hollywood as an actor and is very recognizable to Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans for his recurring role as Jonathan, which he played through all seven seasons of the series. (Strong was even in the unaired version of the pilot episode). The Buffy episode “Superstar” was about an alternate reality where the dorky Jonathan was incredibly well known and successful, which amusingly seems to now be coming true for Strong.

Strong’s other writing credits include HBO’s Recount, while he’s also continued his acting career, including a recurring role on Mad Men in 2010.
