Recognition for two Temple coaches

Temple fencing coach Nikki Franke and former lacrosse coach Tina Sloan Green are among 12 African American women who will be honored by the Burlington-Camden Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi on Nov. 4.

Kappa Alpha Psi is an international organization dedicated to achievement.

Franke, an associate professor in Temple's department of public health, has a 625-156-1 career record entering her 41st season as the Owls' director of fencing and women's foil coach.

Sloan Green, a professor emeritus at Temple, was the first African American head coach in the history of women's intercollegiate lacrosse. She was Temple's coach from 1973 to 1992, compiling a 207-62-4 record and leading the Owls to three national championships and 11 consecutive NCAA Final Four appearances.

Weekly honors. Temple junior midfielder Jake Lister, a West Chester Henderson graduate, scored two goals and added an assist to earn Philadelphia Soccer Six player-of-the-week honors on Monday.

Owls freshman midfielder Jared Martinelli, who leads the Soccer Six in scoring, swept the Soccer Six and Atlantic 10 rookie honors for the third time in four weeks.

The A-10 named Temple senior Chelsea Tupuola the volleyball defensive player of the week.

Widener senior quarterback Chris Haupt was named the Middle Atlantic Conference offensive player of the week for the second time this season. He is Widener's career leader in touchdown passes with 74.

Haverford College goalkeeper Andriy Mshanetskyy was the Centennial Conference men's soccer defensive player of the week.

Drexel women's soccer goalkeeper Eve Badana was named the Colonial Athletic Association's co-player of the week after a pair of shutout wins.
