St. Joseph's Prep outlasts Roman Catholic in soccer

St. Joseph Prep's Colin McGlynn factored in each score Monday as the Hawks downed Roman Catholic, 2-1, in a Catholic League boys' soccer match at Archbishop Ryan.

The Prep struck early with McGlynn finding teammate Bill Savage for the only goal of the first half.

Clinging to a 1-0 lead, the Hawks were awarded a penalty kick after a player was taken down in the box in the 59th minute. McGlynn converted the kick to give his team a two-goal advantage.

Roman's Kristi Koritari scored in the 63rd minute, but the Hawks defense stood strong the rest of the way to move to 7-2-1 in league play.

Elsewhere in the Catholic League, La Salle raced out to a three goal halftime lead en route to a 4-0 win over visiting Bonner-Prendergast. The Explorers goalkeeper, Nick Higgins, needed just two saves to secure the shutout.

Archbishop Carroll's Joe Lasher completed his hat trick in the 12th minute to lead the host Patriots to a 10-0 win over Neumann-Goretti.

Father Judge scored twice in each half on the way to a 4-1 win over visiting Lansdale Catholic.

Mohamid Conde netted the first goal, and both scores in the second half to record a hat trick.

Pat Friend's two goals in the final 15 minutes came up just short as Archbishop Wood fell, 3-2, to Archbishop Ryan at United German Hungarians.

The Raiders were led by sophomore Michael Kirby who scored a goal and assisted on two more.

Ches-Mont. Baley Federico found Tom Mingey for the winning goal as West Chester East won, 2-1, at Oxford.

Nonleague. Unionville's Beck Tuvesson made five stops to earn the shutout as the Indians won, 2-0 at Perkiomen Valley.

Golf

Junior Scott Jaster of Haverford School shot a par 35 over nine holes to earn low individual honors and lead the Fords to the team title in the Inter-Ac tournament at Gulph Mills Golf Club.

Haverford School boasted six players in the top 10 and defeated its closest competition by 19 strokes, finishing with a team score of 224.

Malvern Prep (243) and Episcopal Academy (252) rounded out the top three.

Girls' Soccer

Garnet Valley's Maris Hayes made six saves to earn her seventh consecutive shutout in a 2-0 Central League win over visiting Lower Merion.

Jackie Glandfield's goal in the 22d minute opened the scoring.

Catholic Academies. Goalie Gina Pallanta made 19 saves to lead host Nazareth to a 2-0 win over Merion Mercy.

Field Hockey

Each goal scorer added an assist as host Cardinal O'Hara surged past Conwell-Egan, 8-0, behind four goals from Grace Boston in a Catholic League match.

Carlie Spaeder added a hat trick and Marissa Cicione had the other goal for the Lions.

In other league action, Angela Bachmann made eight saves to secure a 3-0 win for St. Hubert at Archbishop Ryan.

Suburban One. Emily Gallagher led all scorers with three goals and an assist as Wissahickon rolled past visiting Pennsbury, 5-0.
