Iron Man and Hulk Suit Up for an Animated Movie

We already know that Hulk probably won't be featured in Iron Man 3, but if you're like us, you were wondering what happened to Tony Stark and Bruce Banner after they rode off into the sunset at the end of The Avengers. Well, Marvel Studios has an answer!

In an exclusive unveiling over at EW.com, Marvel Animation Studios revealed their plans to release their very first animated film, titled Iron Man & Hulk: Heroes United. The film is set to come to Blu-ray and DVD this spring, on April 23, 2013.

The animated adventure, which acts as more of a spin-off than a direct follow-up to The Avengers, will combine computer-generated imagery with hand-drawn art to create a unique visual environment. The film will revolve around Iron Man and Hulk teaming up to face off against popular Hulk baddie, Zzzax, a creature of pure energy. Fans of the series have often compared the villain of Ang Lee's Hulk to Zzzax, who made his debut way back in 1973.

Unfortunately, the roles of Tony Stark/Iron Man and Bruce Banner/Hulk will not go to their big screen counterparts, but don't fret, Marvel hopes to maintain the spirit and rapport the performers captured in The Avengers. And they've locked some solid talent to do just that. Adrian Pasdar (Heroes) will voice Stark and Hulk-regular Fred Tatasciore will voice Banner. Dee Bradley Baker (American Dad) will offer his talents as the voice of Zzzax.

Marvel Animation is already working hard on a few other animated features, including an adaptation of Big Hero 6. “It’s our hope that we will start doing more feature-length direct to Blu-ray and DVD stories,” Jeph Loeb tells EW. “They’ll more than likely be in team-up situations. We find it works really well when we have big exciting adventures with two or more of our heroes.”

What Marvel team-ups would you like to see?
