NYCC: Capcom Rebalancing Street Fighter X Tekken

Today, during the Street Fighter 25th Anniversary panel here at New York Comic-Con, Capcom's Matt Dahlgren announced a complete rebalance of Street Fighter X Tekken.

Dahlgren explained that the balancing would be similar to the balancing Capcom performed on the Street Fighter IV series. The update will come free of charge and make adjustments both large and small. Dahlgren offered several examples of the upcoming tweaks, including an adjustment to the life gauge coloring to better visualize how much health has been depleted, and a change to the "Fight" text that appears at the start of matches to avoid blocking the characters on screen.

A host of character-specific changes were also discussed and ranged from minute frame changes for attack animations to buffs in specific techniques. Oddly, an improvement to Cammy's Hooligan Combination was greeted with a tremendous burst of cheers and applause from the audience, leading this author to believe that the entire Street Fighter community must love Cammy. Or something.

Dahlgren ended his talk on the rebalance by announcing that the free update will launch in 2013.

Ryan Clements writes for IGN and, honestly, uses Cammy as a default character right after Ryu. He will admit that this selection is based purely on her awesome beret.

Capcom Hints at More Wii U Projects

In a recent Q and A on the Capcom Unity message boards, Capcom’s Consumer Software Senior Vice President Christian Svensson hinted that the company has more Wii U projects in the works.

"I have to be careful what I say here as it will surely be over-analyzed and misinterpreted to be more than what I'm saying." Svensson wrote. "We have other projects in the works beyond MH3 Ultimate. Unfortunately at this time I can not provide any details. I'm sure as someone who is interested in Wii U and a Capcom-Unity.com member, you won't be able to miss news of future projects when they finally do get announced."

Svensson was deliberately ambiguous in his wording, so these projects could be anything from eShop content to ports, to new games. In the meantime, Capcom's focus lies with the recently announced Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, coming to Europe and North America for the 3DS and Wii U in March 2013.

Keep checking back to IGN for more on Monster Hunter and Capcom's Wii U efforts.

Paul W.S. Anderson Mulls Monster Hunter Movie

Resident Evil film series helmer Paul W.S. Anderson is reportedly hoping to turn another Capcom video game franchise, Monster Hunter, into a movie.

Punch Drunk Critics got the lowdown by translating a Japanese interview Anderson did while promoting his latest video game movie, Resident Evil: Retribution 3D. Capcom has trust in Anderson at this point given the commercial success of the Resident Evil movies, the most successful video game franchise yet.

Anderson he's actively planning the film adaptation now. While there are no details on his take for bringing the fantasy-action-horror game to cinematic life, it's probably a safe bet that his wife and Resident Evil leading lady Milla Jovovich will likely be involved with it.

Thanks to Dread Central for the heads-up!

Keiji Inafune Reveals New Zombie Game Project

Keiji Inafune has unveiled that he is working on a new zombie game project called YAIBA.

Since leaving his position as global head of production at Capcom over a year ago, the infamous game designer who's worked on titles including Mega Man, Onimusha and Resident Evil has pursued diverse projects, from social titles to books.

Details about the new project are pretty scarce, other than that it's being worked on by Inafune's new company Comcept, but a teaser trailer accompanied the announcement, which you can check out below.

To mark the announcement, Inafune has also released the following message:

Since my departure from my former company in December of 2010, I have been thinking about how to live up to people’s expectations as an independent game creator. What do people expect of me? What do they want to see me do?

A year and a half has passed after becoming independent, and I have been fortunate enough to announce several projects along the way. I have announced three consumer titles and three social game titles. I have given speeches in various seminars, panels, universities and schools. I have published three books. I am still aggressively challenging myself in various arenas.

But I asked myself  “Have I covered all everything?” It felt like something is missing; something people expect from me the most.

Everywhere I go, people ask: “Are you working on it?” “ When is it coming?” The expectation seems higher in the west.

The expectation is clear. It’s for my next zombie game. There are countless zombie games out there, and yet, people say they want to see a new Inafune zombie game. I am flattered and grateful, for people associating me as a  “Zombie Lover”. For that, I must, answer to this expectation.

This new concept for my game was born some time after becoming independent. I don’t want to spoil everything just yet, but I hope you will enjoy my new game that is loaded with stuff I love, zombies, ninjas, robots, and action. It’s called “YAIBA”. I hope you are excited. I know I am.

We'll be sure to bring you all the latest news on YAIBA as soon as we have it.
